What in the mainnet is going on?
Pack your energy swords and martinis, we’re moving to mainnet!
What does it all mean? Let’s begin with the tech.
Blockchain tech is revolutionary for the security and ownership features it offers. Smart contracts are automated, self-executing contracts that hold agreements between two parties using code. They are decentralized and transparent as they run on blockchain technology. This is technology that can benefit gaming profoundly. Things like complete asset ownership, decentralized ownership, player reward models, transparency and cross-game compatibility are just a few of the things that can be accomplished with blockchain in gaming.
OP Games has built Arcadia on this technology. For just over a year, Arcadia has been living on a test blockchain (tesnet). Testnets allow low-risk iterating, staging and testing for blockchain and smart contract applications. Testnets however, do not offer the same security and performance guarantees of a production blockchain or Main Network (mainnet). Developers often utilize testnets in preparation for joining the big boys club — that is launching on mainnet.
We are thrilled to announce that after 1 year of building and development, Arcadia has officially made the move to Polygon Mainnet! Yup, we’re in with the cool crew as we push for more efficient, secure and functional features for everyone to enjoy and benefit from.
The main(net) squeeze
So what does this actually mean for Arcadia and its community? Arcadia prides itself as being at the forefront of online arcades — onboarding a wide array of hyper-casual games and boasting permissionless tournaments and other web 3 features. Launching on mainnet means next level, kick-ass tournaments with real prizes and automated distribution!
Players can now hop on Arcadia and host their own tournaments with the ability to select prize pool and buy-in fees of actual USDC. Prize pool increases with an amount equal to entry fees which means: more participation = bigger prize pool! You can also configure how many winners there will be and adjust prize deposit amounts accordingly. Arcadia offers players the unique ability to host tournaments around games they enjoy most and share the experience with others by creating gaming parties for their friends and family.
With this launch, Arcadia can onboard game developers and register their tournaments on Polygon’s main network via our smart contracts. Creators can integrate their games on Arcadia and earn game creation fees in real USDC. Arcadia monetizes itself by earning platform fees from all hosted tournaments. It is important to remember that smart contracts are completely public. Any transaction on Arcadia can be seen and viewed on the blockchain. Transparency is key.
At the moment, fees, deposits and prizes are limited to USDC on Polygon Main Network (Token Contract: 0x2791Bca1f2de4661ED88A30C99A7a9449Aa84174). Arcadia will provide support for more stable coins, ERC20 tokens and NFT prizes very soon as we continue to build and open up our world.
With the power of smart contracts coupled with a reliable, stable and secure network in Polygon, our team has taken Arcadia to the next level and continues to recalibrate the platform in a direction towards constant and meaningful development. Being on mainnet is a big win for everyone: the team, partner game developers and of course, the players. Hop on, see for yourselves, and experience the future of hypercasual competetive gaming at Arcadia!
